Called Again 6/30/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 30 June, 2009 19:58
Devotional
Have you ever tried to run from God's calling on your life? When God told Jonah the first time to go to Nineveh, he ran. It was his choice, but look what it got him. He ended up in the belly of a big fish. When we run from God, He has a way of getting our attention and steering us in the right direction. What will your response be when God comes to you a second time?
Scripture Reference
Jonah 3:1-2
Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you."
Action Point
When God calls you, what will your response be? Will you heed the call, or will you run? God has called and equipped you for a purpose. Trust God, and leave the details to Him. He will give you the words to say, and direct your feet in the right direction.
Prayer Requests
Please pray for Robbie, Pat, and Annabelle who have stage 4 cancer.
Pray for the family of Laurie Ruff who went to be with the Lord on June 4th

In His Name 6/29/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 29 June, 2009 20:35
Devotional
There is power in the name of Jesus. Power to heal, power to forgive, and power to save. Over 5000 had heard and believed the gospel. They saw a man lame from birth get up and walk, and many other wonders and signs were done through the apostles. By what power or by what name? It was in the name of Jesus.
Scripture Reference
Acts 4:7
And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this?"
Action Point
There is power in His mighty name. As you go to the Lord in prayer, remember that it is not by our power, but by His power.

Facing Adversity 6/28/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 28 June, 2009 21:04
Devotional
What is your response to adversity? Job makes a good point. We praise God when things are going good, but when things are not going the way we plan, we try to blame God. The fact is God will often times allow adversity in our lives. It is during these times that we need to place our trust in the plan that God has for us.
Scripture Reference
Job 2:10
But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
Action Point
Thank God for the adversity as well as the victory. It is through adversity that our faith grows. Trust in the plans that God has for you. The adversity may just be a blessing in disguise.

Bound By Love 6/27/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 27 June, 2009 21:30
Devotional
As Christian men, we are to love and honor our wives. Marriage is a partnership where the two become one. Though the wife is the weaker vessel, she completes the man with a strong bond that is not easily broken. When they are living in harmony with each other, their lives are in tune with God, and their prayers will not be hindered.
Scripture Reference
1st Peter 3:7
Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
Action Point
Take time today to strengthen the bond of love with your spouse. Remember that a family that prays together stays together.

By Faith 6/26/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 26 June, 2009 21:35
Devotional
The one thing that we all have in common, is that we all have sinned. We are all under the same condemnation. The one thing that sets us as Christian apart from everyone else is our faith in Jesus Christ. It is through faith that we believe in Jesus, and by faith we receive the free gift of salvation..
Scripture Reference
Galatians 3:22
But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Action Point
As a Christian, you can rest in the knowledge that you have been forgiven. The price has been paid, the work has been done.

Already Been Done 6/25/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 25 June, 2009 20:36
Devotional
Many people believe that the way to heaven is by being a good person. The fact is, without Jesus, we are all sinners in Gods sight. No matter how hard we try on our own, we can't please God. It is only through the blood that was shed on Calvary that we are able to enter into His presence.
Scripture Reference
Ephesians 2:13
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Action Point
Go boldly before the throne of God, knowing that as believers, we are covered by the blood of Jesus. We don't have to work for our salvation, because the work has already been done.

Prayer Requests

Submitted by Janice Brown
This just in from a family member whose friend Robert Wood, 25, is in a medically induced coma in a Dallas hospital as a result of anesthesia issues and complications during a routine knee surgery one week ago.
After the surgery, when they were removing his breathing tube, they mistakenly pushed food that was in his stomach, in to his lungs. They then tried to correct that by flushing out his lungs to remove the food. Due to that procedure, his lungs were damaged and he was put in to a medically induced coma to give his lungs time to heal. The concern now, is that they are not able to bring him out of the coma and are talking about neurological damage to his brain.
His parents are with him and asking for prayer for their son.
Thanks for praying for Robert.

Please pray for Robert who just found out today he has a tumor on his brain and is the deadly kind. Rob doesn’t know God very well and needs a miracle. They will do surgery in the morning at MD Anderson. Please let a miracle heal him or show him the way home. Thank you

Lifted Up 6/24/2009 Devotonal
wordinsong | 24 June, 2009 20:04
Devotional
It's easy to praise God when you are on top of the mountain and everything is going good, but what do you do when you are in the pits? As Christians, we should praise God at all times, and in everything that we do. It is when we are praising Him, that we are lifted up out of that pit, and placed on higher ground.
Scripture Reference
Psalm 42:5
Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance.
Action Point
Even when you don't feel like it, praise the LORD. As you lift Him up, you will find yourself being lifted up as well.

Corporate Worship 6/23/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 23 June, 2009 20:55
Devotional
There is nothing like being in a room full of people who are praising the LORD together. As they lift their voices, the walls come down. The things that separate them, are forgotten, and they come together as one with a single purpose. They have come together to lift up and magnify His holy name.
Scripture Reference
Psalm 34:3
Oh, magnify the LORD with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
Action Point
Take time to worship with those around you. Whether at work, at church, or at home, seek those who love the Lord and gather together in His name. Know that there is power in the praises of Gods children.

The God We Know 6/22/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 22 June, 2009 20:57
Devotional
If you talk to most people, they will tell you they believe in God. They know there is a higher power at work in the universe, yet they don't really know who He is. They have all of these other idols they worship, yet there is something missing. C. S. Lewis put it this way. “We all have a God-shaped void inside of us.”
Scripture Reference
Acts 17:23
"for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you:
Action Point
Do you know Him, or do you just acknowledge the existence of a god. To some people He is the unknown God. As Christians we have a personal relationship with Him. Get to know Him personally.

Quality Time 6/21/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 21 June, 2009 20:43
Devotional
Over this past week, while on vacation, I was able to spend some one on one time with my youngest son. As a father, I often long to spend time with my children. It seems that they get so busy that they don't always have time to spend just talking without any distractions. Our heavenly Father also longs to hear from his children. He longs for that quality one on one time with us.
Scripture Reference
Matthew 6:6
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Action Point
Spend some time with your Father today. He is waiting to hear from you. Turn off your phone, your television, and go to a place where you can spend some quality time with Him.

Let Down The Net 6/20/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 20 June, 2009 21:12
Devotional
The Lord is not as interested in your ability, but your obedience. Simon was fishing all night, and had not caught a single fish, yet at the Lord's command, he let down the net. What seamed imposible to Simon was possible through his obedience to Christ.
Scripture Reference
Luke 5:5
But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net."
Action Point
Be obedient to His word. Let down the nets, and become fishers of men.

Who Can God Save 6/19/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 19 June, 2009 19:33
Devotional
Who can God save? One of my favorite Hymns has a line that answers that question. It says "the vilest offender who truly believes, That moment from Jesus a pardon receives." When a sinner prays to God, and asks for His forgiveness, He hears. It doesn't matter who they are, or what they have done. All they have to do to be saved is to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Scripture Reference
Isaiah 59:1
Behold, the LORD s hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save;
Nor His ear heavy,
That it cannot hear.
Action Point
Rest in the knowledge that God can save even the worst sinner. There is no place you can go that He will not hear you. The moment you receive Jesus, all your sins are forgiven. It doesn't matter what you have done.

Firm Foundations 6/18/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 18 June, 2009 20:18
Devotional
Living in Texas, we know what happens when you have a poor foundation. You can build a building, but after a few years the foundation starts to crumble. In order to have a strong building that will last, we need to have a firm foundation. In the same way, if your faith is not built on the Solid Rock, it will eventually crumble and disintegrate.
Scripture Reference
Matthew 7:24
"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
Action Point
On Christ the Solid Rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand. Is your faith built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness? Build your faith on the Rock. Then when the storms come your way and the winds begin to blow, you will have a faith that will hold up through even the worst of storms.

A Work In Progress 6/17/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 17 June, 2009 21:15
Devotional
As Christians, we are a work in progress. The foundation has been laid, and the building has been built, but throughout your life, you are being molded and shaped for His purpose. Through many additions, and renovations, the building that once was, has become a mighty temple for the LORD.
Scripture Reference
Ephesians 2:20-22
having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
Action Point
As Christians, we are to grow in our walk with the Lord. Like a child, we start out small, but over time we grow and mature. The moment we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, He takes residence in your heart. Over time, God rebuilds and remodels it according to His specifications.
