Your Spiritual Glass 8/8/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 08 August, 2009 21:40
Devotional
Is your Spiritual glass half empty, or half full. When Moses sent twelve spies to Canaan, ten men came back saying that the men were to large, and doubted they could take the land. Often times we look at things through a worldly view as these men did. We look at the situation, and say what can I do. It's during these times when we should be looking to God, and saying I know You are able.
Scripture Reference
Numbers 13:33
"There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."
Action Point
Look at life through new eyes. Remember that it's not about what you can do. It's about what God can do through you.

Power Of Praise 8/7/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 07 August, 2009 21:46
Devotional
As I heard a song sung tonight, I was reminded of the power of praising His name. Paul and Silas had been thrown in prison, and were in pain. Why were they singing? It was not about them, but about Him. They were not focused on their situation, but instead they were focused on Jesus.
Scripture Reference
Acts 16:25
But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
Action Point
When things are tough, step back, and look at it from a different perspective. Instead of looking at the situation, look to the Lord.

The Prodigal Son Pt 10 8/6/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 06 August, 2009 20:46
Devotional
The son had left home, took everything he could, and went out into the world. He denied his father, and shamed the family, yet his father gave his son a great gift. The son didn't deserve it, and couldn't earn it. The gift is grace. The son that was lost, had come home, and there was great rejoicing.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:23-24
'And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 'for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.
Action Point
When a sinner repents and comes home, we need to extend grace towards them. Not because they deserve it, or because the have earned it, but because we once stood where they are. Rejoice and be glad.

The Prodigal Son Pt 9 8/5/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 05 August, 2009 21:04
Devotional
Something unexpected was about to happen. As the son started to speak, his father interrupted. The father didn't need to hear the rest of the speech, because he had already forgiven his son. Not only was he forgiven, but he was made worthy in his fathers presence. He was no longer a peasant, but a son.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:21:22
"And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.' "But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.
Action Point
As Christians, we are worthy to be called a child of God. The moment we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven. Live your life as a child of the King.

The Prdigal Son Pt 8 8/4/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 04 August, 2009 20:42
Devotional
The son had a revelation that led to repentance which brings us to the third step in the process. The third step is a right relationship. His father had been waiting with anticipation for this day his son would return. Not only did the father welcome him home, but he welcomed him with open and loving arms.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:20
"And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
Action Point
When a person comes to Christ, we need to welcome them with open arms. Their past is history, and their future has just begun. The seed that had been planted took root, started growing, and now is blooming into something wonderful.

The Prodigal Son Pt 7 8/3/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 03 August, 2009 21:03
Devotional
There is a three part process at work. The son had a revelation, and the truth brought him to a point of true repentance. Not only was the son turning away from sin, but he was turning towards his Father. Notice the order of the son's confession. He said "I have sinned against heaven and before you."
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:18-19
'I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, "and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants." '
Action Point
There is no greater joy, then to see a person turn from sin and towards God. It is at this point where the seed that was planted starts to grow. As Christans, we need to tend and nourish the soil, and make sure the plant gets plenty of exposure to the Son.

The Prodigal Son Pt 6 8/2/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 02 August, 2009 18:46
Devotional
As the son looked upon his situation, he had a revelation. The truth that he had heard since childhood took on new life. The seed that had been planted took root, and started to grow. He finally saw the picture clear as day. The world had nothing to offer, but his father had plenty.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:16-17
"And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. "But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
Action Point
Don't be discouraged when you share Jesus, and do not get a response. It is our job to plant the seed. It may lay dormant for a season, but when the conditions are right, they will take root, and start to grow.

The Prodigal Son Part 5 8/1/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 01 August, 2009 20:31
Devotional
As bad as the situation was, there is a lesson to be learned. The son did not want to be where he was, but God had him right where He wanted him. It took hitting rock bottom before the son realized that he needed his father. Often times it is when we are in the mire, that we grow. The son may have hit rock bottom, but from that vantage point, there was only one way he could go.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:15
"Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
Action Point
Remember that God may have you in the mire for a reason. Take that time to grow, and to reflect. Ask God what He would have you learn from the situation.

The Prodigal Son Pt 4 7/31/209 Devotinal
wordinsong | 31 July, 2009 20:49
Devotional
One thing I have learned from experience, is that during hard times you find out who your real friends are. He had lots of friends when his pockets were full, but when the money ran out, the worldly friends had disappeared. He was in a far country with no money, and no friends.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:14
"But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want.
Action Point
As a Christian, you have a friend who will never leave you nor forsake you. It doesn't matter where you are, or what your situation is. He will stick by you. All you have to do is call, and He will be there.

The Prodigal Son Pt 3 7/30/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 30 July, 2009 21:15
Devotional
This world has nothing to offer. It may promise you fame, and fortune, but in the end it will leave you bankrupt and destitute. The son had everything he needed at home, but he journeyed to a far country, and spent all he had. He was no longer safe in his fathers arms.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:13
"And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
Action Point
There is no better place in the world to be than in the presence of the Father. The world may glitter, but it's beauty will fade. It is only in His presence, that we can truly shine.

The Prodigal Son Pt 2 7/29/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 29 July, 2009 20:20
Devotional
People who are in the world, focus on material things. They are always looking for the greener grass on the other side of the street. The father gave the son a great gift, but it wasn't the portion of goods. The true gift was freedom to choose. In the same way, God has given us the same choice. Do we choose the world, or do we choose to follow Him.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:12
"And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.' So he divided to them his livelihood.
Action Point
God gave us a great gift. We can either receive it, or reject it. Remember that it is only by being free to choose, that we can truly love Him.

The Prodigal Son Pt 1 7/28/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 28 July, 2009 19:18
Devotional
Many people read about the prodigal son, and miss the point that there were two sons. Even though they both had the same father, they both responded in a different manner. In the same way, many people respond to God in a different way. Some will receive Him, while others will reject Him.
Scripture Reference
Luke 15:11
Then He said: "A certain man had two sons.
Action Point
There are only two classes of people before God. You are either saved, or lost. You are either abiding with the Father, or living in the world. As Christians, we need to share the gospel with those living in the world, and lead them to the Fathers house.

God Can Handle It 7/26/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 27 July, 2009 20:02
Devotional
Whenever you think your situation is too big for God to handle, just take a look at the night sky. Consider that the one who placed the stars in the sky, and the moon and planets in orbit, is the one who is in control of your situation. There is nothing too hard for God. We just need to let go, and give it to God.
Scripture Reference
Jeremiah 32:17
'Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.
Action Point
The next time you are facing a tough situation, remember that God can handle it.

Stiff Necked 7/26/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 26 July, 2009 20:45
Devotional
Many people still live like the Israelites in the desert. They were stiff-necked. They heard the Word of God, and they saw what He had done, yet they still lived in disobedience. There is only one way to escape the wrath of God. That way is through faith in Jesus.
Scripture Reference
2nd Chronicles 30:8
"Now do not be stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the LORD; and enter His sanctuary, which He has sanctified forever, and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of His wrath may turn away from you.
Action Point
The saints in the Old Testament and New Testament were all looking at the cross. They were just looking from a different point of view. Jesus is the Passover Lamb in the book of Exodus, the Kinsman Redeemer in the book of Ruth. He is the perfect sacrifice in the book of Hebrews, and the Alpha and Omega in the book of Revelation. Look to the cross of Calvary, and trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

An Effective Weapon 7/25/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | 25 July, 2009 20:51
Devotional
A weapon is only good if one knows how to use it. I remember one time going to an archery range to shoot a bow and arrow. I couldn't hit the target if my life depended on it. I did not know how to use the weapon. In the same way, many people try to fight spiritual battles with the Word of God only to find out that they don't know how to use it.
Scripture Reference
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Action Point
Study the Word of God. It is only then that you can fight the battles ahead. The Word of God is powerful, but it will not be effective sitting on the shelf. Study it, and learn how to use it effectively.
