Fighting Temptations Pt 1 9/7/2010 Devotional

Devotional

As Christians, we often face temptations. All you have to do is turn on the television or drive down the highway and temptation will be there. Jesus was no stranger to temptation. He knew what it was like to be tempted by the devil, and has given us an example of what to do when we face life's temptations.

Scripture Reference

Matthew 4:1

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Action Point

As you face the temptations of this world, remember that Jesus knows what you are going through. He faced the devil and was tempted in every way. He has also shown us by example of what we need to do when we face these temptations.

All She Had 9/6/2010 Devotional

Devotional

Often times people look at the amount of the giving and and not the proportion of what is being given. The people who have the money to give often times aren't making a sacrifice. It is the people who give of what little they do have that are giving from their heart. They are giving all they have to give.

Scripture Reference

Mark 12:44

"for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood."

Action Point
As Christians, we need to give what we have for the kingdom of God. It is not about the amount that is given, but about the heart of the giver.

God's Discipline 9/5/2010 Devotional

Devotional
As a child I never liked being corrected, but as I grew older I realized that I learned from discipline given by my parents. The purpose was not to punish, but to help me grow into the man I am today. God, through the Holy Spirit will chasten us as well, but the purpose is not to punish us, but to help us mature in our walk with the Lord.

Scripture Reference
Hebrews 12:11
Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Action Point
Even though our heavenly Father may correct us from time to time, we need to receive it with joy. A good father who loves his children, will correct them. Our heavenly father corrects us because He loves us.
Them Dry Bones Pt 5 9/4/2010 Devotional

Devotional

Just like when God breathed the breath of life into Adam; the moment you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He breathed the breath of life into you. Though you were once dead in your trespasses, you have been made alive in Christ Jesus. You have become a new creation created in His image.

Scripture Reference

Ezekiel 37:5

'Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: "Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.

Acton Point

The only hope of salvation is found in Jesus Christ. Though I once was lost in sin, Jesus took me in; then a little light from heaven filled my soul. It is that light that gives us life. It is that light that we need to let tell others about.
Them Dry Bones Pt 4 9/3/2010 Devotional

Devotional

It is not what I say that is important. It is the word of the Lord that will change a person's life. If we go around saying look what I can do, people may hear a message, but they will remain unchanged. It is only when we proclaim the word of the Lord that lives will be transformed.

Scripture Reference

Ezekiel 37:4

Again He said to me, "Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, 'O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!

Action Point

As Christians, we are called to proclaim the gospel message. Go out and tell others about Jesus and the free gift of salvation. It is the word of the Lord that will give life to the lifeless.
Them Dry Bones Pt 3 9/2/2010 Devotional

Devotional

Can God save a poor wretched person like me? Have I gone beyond His grace this time? The fact is; there is hope for all who receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. The vilest offender who truly believes. that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. Can these dry bones live?

Scripture Reference

Ezekiel 37:3

And He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" So I answered, "O Lord GOD, You know."

Action Point

There is hope for all who come to Jesus as Lord and Savior. Though they were once dead in their trespasses, they will find new life in Jesus Christ.

Them Dry Bones Pt 2 9/1/2010 Devotional

Devotional

Every day we meet new people and every person that we encounter is a potential opportunity for us to share the gospel message. Like Ezekiel, we have been placed in the midst of these people for a purpose. They need to hear the message, and how can they hear the message unless someone is sent.

Scripture Reference

Ezekiel 37:2

Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry.

Action Point

As Christians, we need to be active in sharing the gospel message. The Lord has commanded us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. It needs to start with you proclaiming the message right where the Lord has planted you.
Them Dry Bones Pt 1 8/31/2010 Devotional

Devotional

The Lord had shown Ezekiel that he was in the midst of a people that were dead and lifeless. Though they had religion, they were as lost as they could be. There was no life in them. In the same way, we are around people at work and on the streets that are like these dry bones, and the life that they need can only be found in Jesus Christ.

Scripture Reference

Ezekiel 37:1

The hand of the LORD came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.

Action Point

If we are to win souls for Jesus Christ, we need to start looking at the people around us as Ezekiel saw the dry bones. Though they are dead and lifeless, they can find new life in Christ Jesus.

A New Start 8/30/2010 Devotional

Devotional

As Christians, we have been given a new start. Where we were once a slave to sin, we are now bound by a bond that is unbreakable. We are no longer bound by sin or by the law, but by the blood of Jesus. Our relationship is no longer as a slave, but as a brother in Christ Jesus..

Scripture Reference

Philemon 1:15-16

For perhaps he departed for a while for this purpose, that you might receive him forever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave--a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

Action Point

As Christians, we need to look beyond a persons past when they receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. We need to be willing to give them a fresh new start as a brother or sister in Christ.

Child Like Faith 8/29/2010 Devotional

Devotional
I remember when my boys were little. Anything that I said, they would believe. They didn't ask questions, or even doubt me for a minute. If dad said it, then it must be true. God wants us to come to him with that same faith. As Children of God, we need to take Him at His word.

Scripture Reference
Mark 10:15
"Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it."

Action Point
It is only by faith in Jesus, that we can enter into heaven. There is no other way. There is nothing that I can do to earn my way to heaven. I can't even buy my way into heaven. It is only by faith in Jesus, and nothing more.
